About the Aircraft
The P-47 Thunderbolt was a large fighter developed and deployed operation by the United States Army during World War II. The engine was equipped with Pratt & Whitney's R-2800, 18-cylinder air-cooled radial engine producing 2000 hp, which was the strongest at the time. With a turbocharger, the P-47 was able to attain a maximum speed of 690km/h.
The first flight was in May 1941. Since 1943, the P-47 joined the the Western Front. At first, the P-47 was on the duty of escort the Allied bomber unit from the United Kingdom into German, but transferred to the ground attack while the new P-51 Mustang was deployed. The P-47 was active until the end of the war.
Refinements of the P-47 Thunderbolt have been continued through actual combat and led to the definitive "P-47D". The "D" model actually consisted of a series of sub-variants, and changed the aircraft shape greatly from the middle. The early production of P-47D had a "Razorback" canopy configuration with a tall fuselage spine behind the pilot, and later fitted with bubble canopy in order to improve pilot visibility. The P-47Ds was most produced version with more than 12,000 built.
