About the Aircraft
The D3A Type 99 dive bomber was the Imperial Japanese Navy's primary carrier-based dive-bomber during the early and mid years of World War 2.
Known to the Allies as ¡ÈVal¡É, the D3A took part in most major naval air actions from Pearl Harbor through the end of the war.
The word ¡Èbomber¡É in Imperial Japanese Navy commonly meant ¡È dive bomber¡É, and its mission was to dive into enemy by large angle more than 60 degrees and release bomb at minimum altitude.
Sometime it marked miraculous hit rate above 80%. With torpedo attack, level bombing by B5N(¡ÈKate¡É), and Zero fighter, D3A1 ¡ÈVal¡É formed the motive power of IJN powerful attack for several months after the Pearl Harbor.
