About the Aircraft
The F-106 Delta Dart was the primary all-weather interceptor aircraft of the United States Air Force from the 1960s through the 1980s.
Designed as the so-called "Ultimate Interceptor", it proved to be the last dedicated interceptor in U.S. Air Force service to date.
The F-106A is the re-designated version of F-102B, and the first F-106A flew on December 1956, and deliveries to the USAF began in July 1959.
Production ended in late 1960 after 277 F-106As and 63 F-106Bs had been built.
The F-106 used a Hughes MA-1 electronic guidance and fire control system.
One of the instant recognition features of the F-106 is the distinctive low-mounted delta wing.
