¡ÚAbout OPEL MANTA 400 Gr.B¡Û
The Opel Manta 400 was introduced in 1981 as the successor to the Opel Ascona 400, which had competed in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Based on the Manta B, it featured a 2410cc inline-four DOHC 16-valve naturally aspirated engine tuned by the renowned British company, Cosworth. The engine was mounted in the front, and the car utilized a rear-wheel drive (RWD) configuration. The body of the Manta 400 incorporated lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, achieving a weight reduction of less than 1000kg. The suspension tuning was handled by German tuner Irmscher. From 1983 to 1986, the Opel Manta 400 competed in the World Rally Championship, European Championship, and various national championships.
¡ÚAbout the Kit¡Û
This is a 1/24 scale plastic model assembly kit that replicates the Opel Manta 400 Gr.B, which was active in rallies from 1983 to 1986.
It is manufactured by Belkits, a Belgian company known for actively developing both vintage and modern rally cars. In addition to the basic plastic parts, the kit includes etched detailing parts, seat belt material, and a masking sheet for convenient window frame painting. The body features wide fenders, a rear spoiler, hood air scoops, and slits, characteristic of Group B rally cars.
The cockpit is detailed with separate parts for rally-specific meters on the dashboard, floor footrests, and tools such as fire extinguishers and wrenches. Moreover, the model can be assembled with either right-hand drive or left-hand drive configurations. The marking represents the car of Jimmy McRae, who finished 4th in the Opel Manta 400 at the 24 Hours of Ypres Rally held in Belgium from June 29 to July 1, 1984, as part of the 1984 European Rally Championship series.
