About the Aircraft

The F/A-18 Hornet has been widely used by the US Navy and Marine Corps from 0000 to 2019. It first flew in 1987 with two F404-GE402 turbofan engines and a top speed of 1,190 mph. Its armaments include a 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon and nine hardpoints, allowing for the deployment of AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, Maverick air-to-ground missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and more. It played an active role as a fleet defense and interceptor. The VMFA-312 Checkerboard, a Marine Corps fighter attack squadron established in 1966, has been using the Hornet since 1987, and it has also been deployed at the Iwakuni Base in Japan, where it has become a familiar sight.
